None to Spare - 23 July 2009
The title of my article today is actually taken from a film I produced
over 30 years ago back in California. The film depicts a father and young son

Seahorse Love Story - 14 May 2009
Most people are familiar with the Seahorse. I remember as a child my
parents taking me to the aquarium and I would be hypnotized watching
this creature with a head like a horse, eyes that rotated in all directions...

Sea Turtle Nesting - 13 March 2009
I know it’s a little early to be talking about turtles nesting on our
beaches but here in the Caribbean it can start as early as the end of
March. What this means basically is that all residents should be on the
lookout for turtles making nests on our beaches during this time.

The Whale's Tale - February 28, 2009
I am not sure how many of you out there are familiar with the battle
between the Sea Shepherd conservation group and the Japanese
whaling ships. During the past 3 months a raging conflict has been going
on ...

Ocean Dead Zones - 20 February 2009
Dead Zones are areas in the oceans that have been literally starved of
oxygen and as a result cannot support life. These zones dramatically increased by one-third
in just two years as global temperatures rise with climate change.

Shark Feeding - 13 February 2009
This activity called ‘shark feeding’ has been a controversial subject for a
number of years. Is it good or bad? Does it harm the ecosystem? How
does it affect the sharks? We will address these questions in this article.

The Life of a Dolphin in Captivity - 30 January 2009
If you think you are having a bad day, stop and think of what kind of a day
a dolphin in captivity is having. Believe me your day, no matter what you think, is far
better. Nobody ever considers the Dolphin's life when they see them performing their various
tricks in a show. You don't in all honesty believe that a dolphin does these things naturally. Jumping
through rings, tailwalking, coming out of the water and laying on the side of the pool. These
are all unnatural acts for this animal.

Tiger of the Sea - 23 January 2009
One of the questions that lam frequently asked by snorkelers, divers and
ocean lovers. "Is the barracuda dangerous?" When you take one look at its sleek body and
toothy grin and the fact that it seems to be staring at you wondering if you are going to
be its next meal, and with a nickname 'Tiger of Sea' the question is understandable.

Coral Bleaching - 16 January 2009
One of the many affects of 'Global Warming' is 'Coral Bleaching'. This
is one of the most devastating threats our coral reefs face. Coral bleaching is exactly what
it sounds like, the coral turns white and subsequently dies.

Our Oceans are in Trouble - 2 January 2009
I know, I know. Every week I talk about some problem we are having
with our environment, whether it be on land, sea or air. The only thing I can hope for is
that somebody is listening. I feel that the majority of the world population believes its
not important or nothing is going to happen. Believe me this is far from the truth. We need to do something NOW!

Ocean Noise - 12 December 2008
Most marine mammals and fishes are very sensitive to sound. Noise
travels long distances underwater and potentially prevents marine mammals and their young
from finding their way. Some studies indicate that naval sonar affects large populations of whales.

The Plastic Bag - 5 December 2008
So much has been written about the use of the plastic bag that I feel like
I'm covering old ground. The plastic bag is probably one of the worst items there is for the
environment. Especially the marine environment. Today I would like to give you further information
on just how plastic bags affect the environment and why we need to stop using them.

What are Greenhouse Gases? - 21 November 2008
We have all heard or seen at one time or another the term 'Greenhouse Gases'.
I am sure there are many of you that would like to know exactly what this term means. The
problem of course is that it sounds very technical and would be difficult for most people
to understand.

Nature's Flying Fisherman - 14 November 2008
I don't have to tell you that our environment is filled with some amazing
animals. Two of these species are probably the leaders in how to catch
fish. They are the Caribbean Brown Pelican and the Frigate Bird.

Living on the Edge of Extinction - 7 November 2008
It seems like just last week when I mentioned in my article that the Caribbean Monk Seal
had become extinct, we are now faced with another problem (or I should say the Polar
Bear is). When you hear about a specie becoming extinct, this means it is gone forever.

"Do Fish Feel Pain"?
"Do we have seals in the Caribbean"?

Lionfish Invade the Caribbean"- 24 October 2008
A few months ago I was on a photo assignment in Great Exuma,
Bahamas. As I have been diving in the Pacific Ocean on quite a few
occasions I am quite familiar with many of the species that live there. So
you can understand my surprise when diving in Exuma I came across a
Red Lionfish ...

Everyone Loves a Dolphin - 5 September 2008
Over the years numerous articles have been written about the
Bottlenose Dolphin. This is the environment's one animal that is constantly
being exploited.

|
Global Warming - 29 August 2008
We have heard the term 'Global Warming' many times in the past few
years. Most of us really do not understand exactly what it means.

|
Shark Finning - 8 August 2008
When someone says the words SHARK your mind immediately starts to
conjure up the worst possible scenario. When in fact sharks have a great deal
to fear from humans. Over 100 million sharks perish annually at the hands of
humans, and believe it or not many populations are faced with extinction.
